OVERVIEW

Natta were appointed as the main contractor to deliver the full design and build of a new 52-unit Extra Care Living Scheme in a traditional brick and block style for Birchgrove Life, located in Godalming, Surrey. It includes a new 3 storey main house offering high-quality self-contained apartments.

SCOPE OF WORKS

The build involved a blend of new-build construction, a 3-storey main house with self-contained apartments. We also converted an existing listed building into two independent one bedroom living units. This part of the project required particular care and attention. We ensured that the design met modern residential standards, while preserving the character and fabric of the historic structure. Additionally, the ground combines soft and hard landscaping, retaining the majority of the trees to enhance the screening on the boundaries.

The main building covers 4 main floors. Due to the sites topography, the design cuts the ground floor into the existing site. Therefore, to address the challenge and provide the necessary structural support, the team constructed a contiguous pilled wall and capping beams. In addition, a secondary extension building was also developed to accommodate a further 3 residential apartments.

Now complete, the extra care living scheme now offers a range of high quality facilities including a restaurant, snug room, bar, and fitness room, and roof terrace. As a result, creating a supportive community environment.

Overall, the project highlights Natta’s ability to manage complex multiphase developments that combine new build techniques, with existing refurbishments.
