OVERVIEW

This project comprised the delivery of the housing development groundworks and infrastructure for a new 97-unit residential housing development located at Catteshall Lane, Godalming, for Crest Southern. Natta was appointed to undertake the early and enabling phases of the works, preparing a complex and constrained site for future housing construction.

SCOPE OF WORKS 

The project was particularly challenging due to a 10-metre fall across the site, which required careful consideration of levels, stability, and sequencing of works. In addition to the steep topography, the site was affected by extensive contamination, including a mixture of metals, asbestos, hydrocarbons, peat, solvents, and the presence of multiple aquifers. These conditions required comprehensive over-pumping as well as strict control measures to ensure safe and compliant working.

Natta successfully managed the initial decontamination phase, implementing appropriate remediation strategies to address the contaminated materials and groundwater conditions. Subsequently, this critical stage made the site safe and suitable for onward development.

As part of the infrastructure works, Natta also delivered the installation of retaining walls to both the secondary and main roads, providing long-term stability across the varying site levels. In addition, the project included the installation of drainage infrastructure, ensuring effective surface and groundwater management in line with engineering and environmental requirements. As the enabling works were completed, the site reverted to a standard housing groundworks site, subsequently allowing the residential construction phase to proceed.

Natta secured this project through our historical expertise in remediation and our proven capability to manage complex, high-risk ground conditions. As a result of this experience, we were able to take on the site risk, delivering a safe, compliant, and successful outcome for the development.
