OVERVIEW

The project involved the full design and build of a 7,637 m² Independent Living Community, The Hawthorns, in Northampton. The building is comprised of 61 Independent Living apartments of varying sizes, with cafés, restaurants and lounges, a cinema, recreation bar, indoor bowls green, hair salon and therapy spa.

SCOPE OF WORKS

The site is situated on a slope, and as such the building incorporates a semi-basement with waterproof concrete retaining walls cut into the ground, with then a 400-tonne steel frame structure punching off large reinforced pads to both lower and upper ground levels.

The four-storey structure is clad in a mixture of brick, glass, render, copper cladding with a flat roof. Internally the structure utilises a structural framing system, metalled floors with structural concrete topping, together with precast concrete stairs. Internally the apartments are finished to a high standard with individual kitchenettes and bathrooms.Extensive communal and day space areas are provided with walnut feature furniture and associated high-end fittings. The scheme is visually impressive and we are very
pleased to have had the opportunity to be involved.
