OVERVIEW
The construction of a new 3 storey steel framed IKEA store with a 4 floor multi-storey car park and associated 278 road works in Southampton, that involved working within a tight site bounded by an existing retail park and the busy West Quay Road, that feeds the busy Southampton docks, working with other contractors on site to enable the construction process to be carried out within the time limits.SCOPE OF WORKS
These included the break up of the existing concrete hard standing and structures. The piling mat was placed using on site crushed concrete. Pile caps were excavated, piles broken down to cut off level and pile caps constructed. There were 11 no. lift pits and 1 no. travelator pit constructed using “Caltite Waterproof concrete”. Other concrete works included ground and upper level power floated floors, ring beams, stair case slabs, car park spiral ramps, air entrained brush finished service yard bases for water storage and sprinkler tanks. Drainage works comprised of foul and surface water. Other works included on site services, car park and road construction. The Hammerson link from West Quay shopping centre was upgraded to form a pedestrian link to the IKEA store.
