Job Description

Remediation of a former testing laboratory.

Scope of Works:

Natta were contracted on a design and build basis to demolish and remediate a former industrial testing laboratory, and construct a new 119-bed residential care home in its place on a 1ha site.

The site was impacted by a variety of historically contaminated made ground materials and coal tar Asphalt.

Additionally, the bedrock clay and ironstone formations had naturally elevated levels of arsenic, to a level making them unsuitable at or near surface in a residential or public open space setting.

Natta Geo-Environmental carried out a detailed delineation and re-interpretation. A complex layered sequence of impacted and non-impacted materials was identified for segregation, disposal and re-use.

3 new construction platforms were then excavated, into the steep hillside at the site. This necessitated the excavation of 9000m³ of soil and natural formation.

The construction platforms were chemically validated for discharge of the remediation Planning Conditions.

Natta have managed all aspects of the earthworks, site investigation, remediation and construction, including full fit out of the care home to completion and discharge of all planning conditions.
