Banbury Road, Bicester – Section 278 Works
Natta was appointed as a specialist subcontractor to deliver a Section 278 (S278) package on the A4095 west bound. This involved civil engineering, drainage installation and utility diversions as part of a major highway reconfiguration scheme for our client, Galliford Try.
The project played a key role in local infrastructure improvements, designed to enhance traffic flow, support future development, and improve road safety.
Natta undertook a full suite of S278 works, providing end-to-end support from early engagement through to handover. The project began with the safe removal of the existing roundabout, which involved careful sequencing and active traffic management to minimise disruption in a live environment. After removing the roundabout, we constructed the new four-way signal-controlled junction and delivered all associated civil engineering works. This included road widening, kerb installation, tactile paving, ducting for signals, and preparation for surfacing.
In parallel, our teams installed a new drainage system, comprising surface water and foul infrastructure, in line with local authority specifications. Additionally, the project also involved managing a series of complex utility diversions. Our team worked closely with statutory undertakers to relocate and protect services in line with programme milestones.
Vacuum excavation was employed in sensitive zones to minimise the risk of service strikes, demonstrating our commitment to safety and precision. We also completed the supply and placement of high-quality topsoil as part of the soft landscaping and verge reinstatement works. We ensured that the project’s environmental and aesthetic standards were upheld throughout each stage of the project.
