OVERVIEW

Natta were appointed residential infrastructure groundworks contractor by St. Modwen for Crab Hill, a new 1,500-unit major housing development. This incorporated a new primary school, a neighbourhood centre, and a central park on a 227-acre site.

SCOPE OF WORKS

Acting as the main contractor, Natta constructed two new Section 278 access junctions to provide primary entry points into the development from the existing highway network. In addition, the team carried out extensive bulk cut-and-fill earthworks to prepare the land parcels and achieve suitable formation levels for future residential construction.

A key element of the project involved the formation and planting of approximately 140,000m² of public open space, which will serve as the landscape centrepiece of the development. These works contribute significantly to the overall quality and sustainability of the scheme, providing accessible green space for future residents.

The project also presented several technical and logistical challenges, including the diversion and removal of existing high-voltage overhead power lines, the construction of a new foul pumping station and rising main, and the installation of deep drainage systems reaching depths of up to 7 metres. In addition, the scale and complexity of the site required careful planning and coordination to manage construction activities effectively.

Overall, this project demonstrates Natta’s capability in delivering large-scale residential infrastructure groundworks, supporting major housing developments through the provision of essential access, drainage, and enabling works.
