St Luke’s Hospice
OVERVIEW
Natta was appointed to deliver the full design and build of a new six-bed hospice facility in Basildon. The project involved the creation of a purpose-built environment designed to support people with life-limiting conditions, as well as their families and carers.
SCOPE OF WORKS
The hospice was designed to operate as a central hub for care, while also enabling outreach and in-home care services within the wider community. The building incorporates a broad range of on-site facilities to support both residents and staff, ensuring the hospice can function effectively as a multi-use care environment.
Now fully complete, the facility includes six care bedrooms, alongside several dedicated spaces, such as relative rooms, quiet rooms, breakout areas, and connecting gardens. These internal and external spaces have been arranged to encourage comfort, privacy, and access to natural surroundings. In addition, the hospice includes on-site kitchens, a pharmacy, shop, café, education centre, office accommodation, staff facilities, and a variety of specialist rooms, all designed to support the daily operation of the hospice and its wider care services.
Every aspect of the building and its surroundings was designed to promote a calm, supportive environment while still providing full medical facilities. Particular attention was paid to layout, material selection, lighting, and external spaces to ensure that the experience for both guests and staff is as comfortable and reassuring as possible.
The project required a high level of attention to detail from the build team in order to meet the detailed specifications and to coordinate effectively with specialist trades and suppliers. This careful approach ensured that the finished building met the required standards while remaining sensitive to the purpose of the facility. The completed hospice is a thoughtfully delivered building with a clear and meaningful role within the local community.
