OVERVIEW

Natta was appointed to deliver the civil engineering and groundworks package for a new roundabout and access road at Dunsfold Airport, located in Cranleigh, Surrey. Subsequently, these works formed a key component of the wider Dunsfold Park development.

SCOPE OF WORKS

This project comprised the construction of a new roundabout and a primary access road, designed to serve as the grand entrance to the future development. Consequently, the infrastructure works were critical in providing safe, direct and efficient access from the A281 into the main perimeter road within the Aerodrome site.

In addition, the new access road was carefully planned to follow the alignment of the former runway, creating a wide avenue that enters the development and celebrates the site’s aviation heritage. Throughout, a key design consideration was the need to avoid disruption to local traffic, ensuring the surrounding community could travel safely and with minimal inconvenience.

The project gained further enhancement through extensive landscaping works, which introduced mature tree planting to frame the new road and roundabout, significantly enhancing the visual approach. Additionally, large drainage swales were integrated to manage surface water sustainability. At the same time, we used wide shared-use cycleways and footpaths to support active travel and encourage pedestrians and cyclists across the site.

Overall, the combination of functional highway infrastructure, with aesthetically considered landscaping, has resulted in a striking entrance for the future phases of Dunsfold Park. As a result, this project showcases Natta’s capability in delivering complex infrastructure works that combine engineering excellence and visual impact.
