World Mental Health Day

Every year on the 10th of October, The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day. This year, the theme is suicide prevention. According to the World Health Organisation, “Every year close to 800,000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year olds globally.”

As it is World Mental Health Day, Natta wanted to do more to show our support and commitment to our employees. Since 2018, Natta has been a supporting member of Mates in Mind and are committed to raising awareness within our workforce. We want to help our staff be physically and mentally fit so that they can perform at their best and live full lives.

According to Mates in Mind, “There were 5,821 suicides registered in the UK in 2017, with men accounting for three-quarters of this number. Workers in construction are some of the highest at risk of suicide in the country, with a risk more than 3 times higher than the national average.”

Here at Natta, we value the importance of stress, health, and wellbeing of our workforce. In September, the Natta Group held our latest wellbeing week. Throughout the week our Wellness Team, headed by Chris Musgrove and Vanessa Pinto, arranged different activities related to health and wellbeing at the Head Office. Our sister company Surrey Training Group also discussed Mental Health in the workplace at their last meeting. Members were also given an insightful presentation about ‘Mental Well being & Resilience in the Workplace’ from The British Red Cross.

Tips for staying mentally well at work

According to Mind the Mental Health charity, “More than one in five (21 percent) agreed that they had called in sick to avoid work when asked how workplace stress had affected them.” They also went on to share following a recent survey: “14 percent agreed that they had resigned and 42 percent had considered resigning when asked how workplace stress had affected them.”

To help you deal with stress in your daily lives, Mediation and Mindful Breathing is a proven way to help you quickly destress and re-centre yourself – reset to zero. The following video from Headspace is an easy step-by-step tutorial to help you practise mindful breathing.
