Ryan Swinton ManagerNatta Health & Safety News Sun Cancer Awareness Month With summer now in full swing, our attention turns to Natta employees health and wellbeing in the summer weather conditions. Briefings have been issued to our site teams which give guidance for the workforce. During extreme heat, it is easy to become dehydrated or for your body to overheat, which can result in heat cramps, heat exhaustion, orheatstroke, or can result in making existing medical conditions worse.May was Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness month. Most skin cancers are caused by skin damage which occurs from exposure from ultraviolet light from the sun. Construction workers are particularly at risk as they spend the majority of their day outdoors, so protecting our workforce as much as we can is extremely important. Please remember to cover up your shoulders and upper arms. Apply suncream early in the day and maintain it throughout. Your safety helmet can also provide a degree of protection from the sun.We advise that you take regular water breaks and shade from the sun. If you feel unwell make sure you inform your supervisorbefore going over to the welfare units. Macmillan Cancer Support recommends using suncream with a factor 30+ as well aswearing protective clothing. All of our site teams are provided with the correct PPE to protect their skin from the sun whenrequired. Natta also sent a toolbox talk to all members of staff to raise awareness about this important topic. Alcohol Awareness week is taking place from the 3rd to 9th of July. We encourage employees to discuss issues with the team at any time. Safety managers will be carrying out Drugs and Alcohol testing throughout the month on random sites using newly acquired equipment from Intelligent Fingerprinting. David Smith, HSE Manager'
