Jubilee Sports Centre, University of Southampton
OVERVIEW
Natta delivered the enabling works and groundworks for a major extension to the Jubilee Sports Centre at the University of Southampton. Furthermore, the development forms part of the University’s broader investment in upgrading its sports and wellness facilities, an initiative designed to enhance the overall campus experience, aimed at supporting students, staff and the local community.
SCOPE OF WORKS
Natta’s works involved a full package of enabling and superstructure activities to prepare the site for the new extension. This included the diversion of existing services as well as drainage systems. Subsequently, this required careful coordination to maintain uninterrupted utility provision across the operational campus. Significant earthworks were carried out to level the site and prepare for the construction phase. This was followed by the installation of both piled and mass concrete foundations, to meet the requirements of the new sports centre extension.
General groundworks formed a key part of the package, including trenching, ducting as well as the installation of below-ground infrastructure. The works also included the construction of retaining walls. The team then installed the ground-bearing floor slabs with precision to support the future substructure. In addition, the team completed the project with hard landscaping around the new development, helping to integrate the extension seamlessly into the existing site.
Consequently, this project showcases Natta’s ability to work within a live University environment, delivering complex groundworks with minimal disruptions to campus activities. This was all carried out whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and coordination throughout all phases of the works.
