Redfields Garden Centre
OVERVIEW
Natta were awarded principle contractor for the redevelopment of an existing garden centre in Church Crookham, where we delivered a new purpose-built retail facility while ensuring uninterrupted trading throughout the construction programme. The redevelopment formed a significant upgrade to the site, providing modern retail facilities supported by new infrastructure and improved access.
SCOPE OF WORKS
The works comprised the construction of a new 7000m² garden centre in two phases, ensuring constant trading from the existing and subsequent phase 1 store was maintained at all times. Externally, a new 278 roundabout and cycleway was constructed, together with a 400-space car park. Extensive drainage measures supported the development, incorporating large attenuation tanks, culverted ditches and high-capacity rainwater harvesting tanks. The building itself consisted of traditional foundations with a concrete floor, steel frame and Kingspan cladding. Fit-out was by the operator.
The scheme required close liaison with statutory bodies, local highways, local residents and shoppers using the Garden Centre. The team took particular care with signage, access routes and cleanliness due to the high proportion of elderly and disabled visitors to the store.
Throughout the project, Natta maintained a high level of performance under the Considerate Constructors Scheme, reflecting our commitment to responsible construction practices and community engagement. The same client awarded us a £9m turnkey project to construct 49 houses and flats. The completed store reached a successful handover in June 2014, delivering a modern facility finished to a high standard.
