OVERVIEW

Natta were the Main Contractor for this Section 278 works. The works comprised a major roundabout, entrance bellmouth and access road that form the entrance for 115,000m² of offices and 200 dwellings. The client required Natta to produce high-quality public hard landscaping areas embodying quality designs, materials and planting. The whole site covers an area of approximately 4.13 hectares and comprises former storage, test laboratory and barracks buildings currently occupied by a film studio for film sets and production offices.

SCOPE OF WORKS

The main objective of this contract was to create a unique entrance bellmouth that is visually impressive from the nearby passing road. This was achieved by the erection of a series of dry stone sentinels ranging in height from 3.5m to 2m, together with a planted veil of native hedging to provide a three-dimensional aspect to this entrance feature.

As part of the introduction of the new roundabout, the works required major service diversions before the installation of new kerbing for filter lanes and a new access road, lighting and signage, whilst maintaining existing entrances for the property users. As part of our solution, we erected a temporary steel bridge to allow vehicle access over open service corridors. The build of the quality finished hard landscaping areas involved coordination of very long material lead times from Germany, China and Holland. Our supply chain was fundamental in achieving the multifaceted scope.

Natta completed this project on time and subsequently completed further Infrastructure packages on the site. We were also nominated for ’Contractor of the Year 2014’ by Crest Nicholson.

Natta was then awarded the Considerate Constructors Certificate for Performance beyond Compliance.
