Deepcut – Green Swathe

OVERVIEW
Natta was awarded an additional works package by Skanska for the development of a Green Swathe at the former Deepcut Barracks site. This project formed part of a wider regeneration initiative and focused on the transformation of a brownfield area into a usable, attractive, and ecologically sensitive public open space.SCOPE OF WORKS
The primary objective of the project was to create a multifunctional public open space that would serve both the local community and future residents. The scope included the construction of pedestrian pathways, installation of footbridges, development of open watercourses, and extensive soft landscaping to enhance the visual appeal and biodiversity of the area. Before the main construction works could commence, a comprehensive land remediation process was undertaken. Due to historic contamination, this land required a strict remediation strategy to ensure environmental safety. This involved the implementation of a clear and consistent methodology to establish and maintain a defined layer of clean soil, essential for supporting plant life and safe public use.
An additional technical challenge was the presence of shallow highvoltage electrical cables running through the site. These required careful protection measures both during the construction phase and upon completion.
Access to the site was restricted due to its location adjacent to an active housing development. This necessitated detailed logistical planning to ensure the project progressed smoothly without causing undue disruption to the surrounding community. Natta’s established local presence and knowledge of the area played a vital role in overcoming this challenge. We successfully coordinated the delivery of imported soils and other materials with minimal impact on nearby residents, demonstrating our commitment to environmental practices.
