OVERVIEW

This project comprised the construction of a new roundabout and access road to serve a major 500-unit residential development, Heathy Wood in Copthorne, together with associated community amenities and commercial units. Natta delivered essential highway infrastructure and access works required to enable the safe and efficient development of the wider scheme. The new infrastructure was designed to integrate with the existing road network while accommodating increased traffic volumes associated with the residential and commercial elements of the development.

SCOPE OF WORKS

Acting as the main contractor, we were awarded the initial contract by St Modwen Developments to construct the large new 278 roundabout and access road off the existing A264. These works required careful coordination and delivery to meet highway authority standards and ensure long-term durability and performance.

The project involved considerable earthworks, including extensive cut and fill operations. Due to the challenging soil conditions resulting from the site’s previous use as an inert material tip, an on-site lab was set up to conduct the geo-technical testing. Our experience in this field led to a successful delivery and acceptance from West Sussex County Council. In addition, we constructed a new bridge, with prefabricated portal sections utilised to improve efficiency and support the programme. This also required the installation of a large 2.10 m diameter attenuation pipe, together with new services and drainage.

Overall, we demonstrated our engineering capability and experience in delivering complex highway infrastructure, successfully supporting large-scale residential and mixed-use developments.
