OVERVIEW

Natta were appointed as the main contractor to deliver the full design and build of a new 52-unit Extra Care Living Scheme in a traditional brick and block style for Birchgrove Life, located in Godalming, Surrey.

SCOPE OF WORKS

The build involved a blend of new-build construction and the conversion of an existing listed building. The listed building was converted into two independent one bedroom living units. This part of the project required particular care and attention. We needed to ensure that modern residential standards were met, whilst preserving the character and fabric of the historic structure.

The main building covers 4 main floors. Due to the topography of the site, the ground floor is cut into the existing site. To address this challenge and provide the necessary structural support, a contiguous pilled wall and capping beam were constructed. In addition to the main site, a secondary extension building was also developed to accommodate a further 3 residential apartments.

Upon completion, the extra care living scheme now offers a range of high quality facilities including a restaurant, snug room, bar and fitness room, creating a supportive community environment.

The project highlights Natta’s ability to manage complex multiphase developments that combine new build techniques, with existing refurbishments.
