Natta Celebrates Topping Out at Woodford Green Care Home
On Wednesday 21st October, Natta joined Morrison Community Care Group, Reilly Ventures, Holden and Lee and Kempton Smith for a special topping out ceremony at the Beechwood Court, Woodford Green Care Home.
The event marked a significant milestone in delivering the new three-storey, 120-bed care facility. Representatives from across the project gathered to celebrate the progress made since April’s breaking ground ceremony and recognise the team’s hard work.
The team were shown around the site, giving them a chance to catch up, discuss the development and look ahead to the next stages of construction. To commemorate the topping out ceremony, Natta Build Director Andrew Scott presented the team with a commemorative trowel. The presentation celebrated both the construction milestone and the collaboration between the client and the wider project team. Despite the wet weather, it was a great chance to celebrate everyone’s hard work and teamwork on the project. Following the presentation, guests gathered for sandwiches, cakes, tea and coffee.
Natta Build Director, Andrew Scott, commented: “The topping out was an opportunity to thank the client team and recognise the hard work, dedication and teamwork that have brought us this far. I would also like to thank the construction team, contractors, architects, engineers, consultants, council representatives and everyone involved in the project for their commitment, professionalism and efforts in reaching this important stage and assisting in wishing good fortune and protection to the building and everyone who would use it through this ancient tradition of ‘raising the tree’.”

With the building now topped out, we’re a step closer to delivering a home designed around the care, comfort and wellbeing of its future residents. It’s been a real team effort with Reilly Ventures and Natta, and we look forward to seeing the finished home.”
Antony Reilly, Director at Reilly Ventures, said: “It’s a pleasure to mark the topping out of this 120-bed care home in Woodford Green, alongside Morrison Community Care and Natta. Reaching this milestone reflects the hard work and commitment of everyone involved. We’re delighted to be part of the project and look forward to seeing it take shape through the next stage of development.”

What is a Topping Out Ceremony?
Traditionally, a topping out ceremony aims to commemorate the construction of the highest point of a building. Some trace the ceremony’s origins to ancient Egypt. Others associate it with Nordic traditions introduced by the Vikings. To appease the tree-dwelling spirits, people would place a tree on top of a building. People believed these spirits were displaced during construction. However, in modern construction, changing materials and regulatory requirements have made placing a tree less common.
Delivering Woodford Green Care Home
Natta are working for Morrison Community Care Group as the Main Contractor. We are undertaking the delivery of a three-storey, 120-bed care facility. The development sits within a residential community bordering Epping Forest.
Our scope of works includes the demolition of existing buildings on site, followed by the construction of new foundations, the retained basement structure and the superstructure above. With the topping out milestone reached, the team will continue working hard towards completion.
