World Mental Health Day 2020

Each year on 10th October, the World Health Organization recognises World Mental Health Day.

During these challenging times, it is more important than ever to take care of our mental health and that of those around us. With many being in isolation for extended periods of time and with life’s added stresses, it is expected that the need for mental health support will dramatically increase in the coming months. This is why the World Health Organisation’s aim this year is to increase investment in mental health.

What are we doing?

This World Mental Health Day, we want to show our ongoing commitment and support to our team. At Natta, we understand how vital it is to have discussions on this topic, with workers in construction being 3 times more likely to take their own lives than the national average. Since 2018, Natta has supported Mates in Mind; a charity which works to increase awareness on mental health issues within the construction industry. According to Mates in Mind, “9 out of 10 people who experience mental ill-health say they face stigma and discrimination as a result”. We aim to help break that stigma and allow our workforce to speak up and feel supported.

Recently, our MD, John E Whelan, visited sites to talk about mental wellbeing and encourage our teams to open up. In September, we also held our annual Wellness Week which saw several activities arranged for staff related to health and wellbeing.
