Project Facts Sector: Superstructure Our Role: Main Contractor Location: Church Crookham Client: Redfields Garden Nursery Ltd Project Value: £4m Duration: Jan ‘13—June ‘14 Overview: Natta were the principle contractor for the redevelopment of an existing garden centre site. Scope of Works: The works comprised the construction of a new 7000m² garden centre in two phases ensuring constant trading from the existing and subsequent phase 1 store was maintained at all times. Externally a new 278 roundabout and cycleway was constructed, together with a 400 space car park. Extensive drainage measures were required involving large attenuation tanks, culverting of ditches and very large rainwater harvesting tanks. The building itself consisted of traditional foundations with concrete floor, steel frame and Kingspan cladding. Fit out was by the operator. The scheme required close liaison with statutory bodies, local highways, local residents and shoppers using the garden centre. Particular care was required with signage, access routes and cleanliness due to a high proportion of elderly/disabled visitors to the store. We maintained a high level of scoring by Considerate Contractors throughout the project. We are pleased to have been awarded subsequently a £9m project to construct 49 houses and flats as a turnkey project by the same client. The final complete store was handed over on programme in June 2014.
