Natta celebrates International Women’s Day 2018

International Women’s Day 2018

– Women in Construction Summit

Yesterday, Natta’s Jo Whelan and Vanessa Pinto spent an enjoyable day at the Women in Construction Summit in London. At this aptly timed event, they had the opportunity to meet and listen to some talented and inspiring women who have forged successful careers in Construction. Listening to the wisdom and personal experience from Skanska’s Executive Vice President, Katrina Dowding was one of the day’s highlights. As was the inspiring talk given by the determined Isla Hill, a Senior QS at BAM Ritchies, who just refused to take no for an answer to get into the industry.

Natta’s Female Workforce

Back in the 1980s, Natta employed one of the first female machine drivers in the UK. Today Lil Buckle runs Natta’s Plant Hire Department. We employee several female Engineers, a female Estimator, an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Document Controllers working on site and our first female Trainee Groundworker. Not to mention the numerous women that we have working at Head Office in our Accounts, Marketing, Plant, Training and other departments.

Over the last two years the amount of women that we employ has doubled. In 2016 they made up 10% of Natta’s workforce. Now in 2018 this has risen to 15% and we are committed to continuing this rise.

Female Construction Ambassador

We are also delighted that Toni Gray has been recently accredited as a ‘Construction Ambassador’ for the Natta Group. Construction Ambassadors play a vital role in supporting and promoting careers within the construction industry. As an Ambassador, Toni will provide an introduction to the industry for many young people considering their future careers as well as inspiring young women as potential new entrants to the Industry.

Jo Whelan, Group Marketing Manager commented, “I am privileged to work for a diverse and inclusive company. As a mum of two girls, I feel passionately that all females should be able to pursue any career in any industry. That my daughters or my son will not be limited by gender stereotypes or bias. To be successful in any business you need to be progressive and inclusive. Inclusion is key for all.”

Natta is currently recruiting. Never before has there been a better time to join the Natta family. We are always looking for talented, hardworking people to help us grow the business. See our current opportunities on our careers page.
